my friend, and wonderful blogger, Anna wrote a post about nostalgia...now I'm not about to write nearly as good a post but this evening I went to the youth service at christ church and had a similar nostalgic feeling.
it's the first time I've been back to cells since I left (I've popped into some altogether type celebrations but first cells) and it was weird.
Firstly I was hugely impressed that during the youth service I got picked to play jewish festivals/celebration day charades against Tim (our vicar) and won :D
Secondly, it's true what they say, leading a cell group is like riding a bike...you never forget how to do it! I wasn't actually leading the cell but I was contributing in a way that was leader-like. Bringing the conversation back to the topic and encouraging everyone to talk.
Thirdly, I got a chance to catch up with people, all my old youth groups...most of whom I also consider my friends. This meant that I decided to stay after the service and crash cells. Andy (youth worker) said I could so I did! It was good, and I got to have alot of conversations with different people :) I've booked a couple of coffee dates with girls from the youth group that I've been meaning to catch up with and I'd like to think people were pleased to see me and have me back for a night.
I was able to enjoy the evening mostly because a weight has been lifted off my shoulders after I wrote my social policy essay this afternoon...yep that's right...a whole essay in one afternoon! I have no idea if it's any good...I couldn't bring myself to go back and read it! but it means it's written and now I just have to re-draft it, which is a whole lot easier! It's taken me 5 days to get around to writing the thing, procrastination is a wonderful tool :) it doesn't help that I don't like social policy and therefore wasn't particularly motivated to start the essay. I was torn between 'I can't be bothered, as long as I pass I don't care' and 'I know I'm smarter than that and can write a good essay'. hopefully in the midst of that I'll submit a reasonable essay that I'm happy with and pass.
my week looks like this:
Tomorrow- bank holiday monday, the family is looking after the older miss ross for the day which will be good :) other than that I plan to relax and think a bit about Tuesday...
Tuesday- I have my examined interview for Fit for Practice 2...our lecturers pretend to be clients and I have to do a 5 minute interview with them, followed by a 5 minute reflective discussion...will hopefully go ok but you never know! following this I need to write a 500 word reflective essay on the interview.
Wednesday- I'll redraft my social policy essay and do references etc
Thursday- I have a meeting at lunchtime with CU people coz I've been asked to be involved with the freshers week team for september and we're having our first meeting. I'll also finalise my essay completely.
Friday- hand in social policy essay and go to end of year party for all social work students.
Saturday- finish Fit for Practice portfolio for hand-in on monday
Sunday- revise ALOT for law exam
Monday- hand in Fit for Practice & take Law exam
Tuesday- breathe a huge sigh of relief!!!!!!!
It's weird to think that a week tomorrow I'll be done...a third of the way through my degree! that's a very scary thing to think. results aren't until 15th June but frankly, once everything's in there's nothing I can do to change it...right now I can change it which stresses me out!
What's happened in the last week....swine flu pandemic is possibly on the horizon, maybe, possibly, no-one's really sure...Hannah's been given a key to our house, that's PJ's girlfriend Hannah who is effectively a member of our family! we've just enveloped her and brought her in, she hasn't had much choice about it! but her getting her own key is a big deal!.....I went to London with Dina, Adam & Danni to see the recording of a new TV show at the BBC studios, was a good time, nice to relax with everyone.....did my shadowing day on Thursday, had a good time, was interesting to see people do the job I'll be doing in 2 years....my Hannah came back from California and has since left to go travelling in South America, she'll be back soon though so I only have to live without her for a bit!....think that's everything!
alright, I think that's a decent blog post! a bit about nostalgic trips to old youth group and more about my assignment plans which I'm sure you don't care that much about but it helps me to write it out! and some comments on what's happened in my life since the last post :)
Much love xxx
